I’m Ruth, a South African writer, wife and mother, living a simple yet fulfilling life in the gem of the Karoo.

My writing journey began in 2016 when I first started my blog, Pursuing Purpose, where I shared the unfiltered truths and reflections on life lessons learnt, my faith and the adventures that shaped me. It gained recognition for its authenticity and had a loyal community of readers.

Today, I’m thrilled to be turning a new page as I celebrate the publication of my debut children’s book. It’s an exciting new chapter, and I am grateful to have you here to share it with me.

About the book

A Horse Playing Hopscotch

Based on real-life events, this inspiring children’s book follows Jasmine, a bright and determined little girl who discovers the game of chess through her grandfather.

What begins as a moment of curiosity grows into a 13 year adventure filled with tournaments, friendships, challenges and personal growth.

The story celebrates resilience, family bonds, and the power of believing in your own potential. Young readers will be encouraged to find joy in learning new skills.
